Radon:
Minneapolis-St. Paul Radon Mitigation
Radon is a colorless and odorless gas that comes from the soil. It is produced from the natural decay of uranium and radium found in rocks and soil. The uranium breaks down into radium and the radium eventually decays and produces radon gas. Radon gas decays into fine particles that are radioactive. This gas comes up through the porous soil and is released into the air. Outside, it mixes with the oxygen and is diluted. However, radon gas can concentrate underneath your foundation and enter your home through cracks in your foundation, dirt crawl spaces, open sump baskets, mortar joints, and floor – wall joints. Depending on your home and its location, radon gas can accumulate in the air you breathe inside your home and can become a health concern. Exposure to radon over a prolonged period of time can lead to lung cancer.
Radon is measured in picocuries per liter of air. It is not possible to totally remove radon from your home, but it is possible to reduce it. The Environmental Protection Agency has set the action level for radon to 4pCi/L. It is highly recommended to have a mitigation system installed for readings over 4pCi/L.
have a Radon Testing
You can purchase a short-term radon test kit at home improvement stores. You can also check with your local city and county offices who often have short term test kits available for little to no cost. Instructions will be provided with the kit. Once you have completed the test, you will mail the kit to the lab who will mail or email your results.
Licensed Radon Mitigation Professional
SafeBasements™ has a licensed radon mitigation professional on staff in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Our project consultants are trained to design and install radon mitigation systems specifically for your Minneapolis-St. Paul home. SafeBasements™ drain tile systems are radon mitigation ready whether it is in a basement or crawlspace. We may also be able to retrofit to many existing tile systems. You do not need to have drain tile to have a mitigation system.
SafeBasements™ Radon System
Typically, we use a sub-slab depressurization system. This is designed to remove the radon gas from below the concrete floor and foundation. This is done by inserting PVC pipe thru the floor slab and drawing out the air and radon gas from beneath your home and venting it outside. Suction is created using a fan that is generally installed in an attic space. Our systems are designed to vent through the roof when possible, depending on the home.
Once your system is installed, we will leave you with a test kit. The test period will be 48 hours then mail the kit to the lab and results will be sent to both you and SafeBasements™.
If your results are less than 4 pCi/L, – your mitigation is complete.
If your results are more than 4 pCi/L, – we will send our licensed radon professional back to your home to make any adjustments and will leave you with a test kit.
Radon Mitigation System Warranty
We have a lifetime guarantee for the performance of our Radon Mitigation System. This guarantees the system will reduce the radon level in your home to 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter of air) or less. If this does not occur, we will correct the problem at our expense or refund the full amount of the money paid to us. This warranty is transferable to a new owner.
